Penang (more a photo essay)

Not our usual travels to exotic places, but home ground in Penang.
Last year we contracted to purchase a 2 bedroom unit in a nice condo at Miami bay not far from Batu Ferringhi. We finally got State Government approval for the purchase and collected the keys.
Our initial visit lasted only 2 and a half days, but enough time to use up 10 lit of paint and give the place a fresh look throughout.
Looking NW at dawn with full moon.
Looking NE to Kedah Mountains at dawn. From our apartment.
Rediscovering the old parts of Georgetown has been a joy. Wonderful old building; the smells of so many different types of food; friendly smiles; contrasts of old and new; the great Clan temples and houses…it goes on. This is the essential heart of Penang.

Goddess of Mercy Temple.

Famous Teochew Chendul stall.

“Roti” bread vendor.

Under Kuan Yin’s watchful eye.

Clan houses and restoration.
One of many grand Mosques.
One of many small temples.
Old Government offices.
Quaint back streets.
BBQ Long Yok (pork)..my favourite
Skylines.

……and contrasts.
Culture (Straits Quay)
…..and sand.
The Island has a special vitality of its own and the more time to soak it in, the better.
